Different metals react differently to acids, alkalis, and abrasives. Use the material-specific guidance below to avoid turning a cleaning job into a repair job.

Stainless Steel

Stainless is the most forgiving material on this list. It tolerates boiling vinegar, lemon juice, baking soda paste, and oxalic-acid-based cleansers without serious risk. Method for stainless steel and aluminum: mix baking soda with water into a thick paste and coat the stained area. Wait 15 minutes, then scrub with a soft sponge.
